Hartley People are partnering with one of our long-standing and trusted clients to assist in the recruitment of a Senior Accountant within their group. This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic individual to work closely with the CEO and COO, providing them with critical financial insights and supporting decision-making processes. Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate will gain comprehensive exposure to the business, with real potential for professional development within the organisation.
What’s the Role?
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the financial operations of the group, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in all financial processes. This is a hands-on role that involves both day-to-day management and strategic oversight. Key responsibilities include:
-
Preparation of Monthly Management Accounts: You will have full responsibility for the preparation of monthly management accounts within a defined timeframe, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This includes handling month-end journals, accruals, and prepayments.
-
Fixed Asset Management: Maintain the fixed asset register and post depreciation accurately to reflect the true value of the company’s assets.
-
Team Management: Oversee a small finance team, including 1 full-time and 1 part-time member focused on Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable. Your leadership will ensure the team operates efficiently and effectively.
-
Supplier and Payments Management: Review monthly supplier payment runs and conduct regular supplier pricing reviews to ensure cost-effectiveness. Ensure invoices are posted in a timely manner and oversee the completion of bank reconciliations, direct debit payments, and the issuing of monthly statements.
-
Finance Operations Oversight: Ensure the successful day-to-day running of all finance operations, including managing employee expenses and cash flow.
-
External Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for external accountants as required.
-
Regulatory Compliance: Prepare and submit VAT returns and other revenue returns, ensuring full compliance with all statutory requirements. You will also be responsible for ensuring all Central Statistics Office (CSO) returns are filed on time.
-
ERP System Expertise: A critical component of this role is your ability to extract, analyze, and report financial data from the ERP software system, particularly Power BI. Experience with Power BI is highly desirable, but candidates with experience in other ERP systems will also be considered. What’s most important is your curiosity and ability to navigate and learn the system effectively, with support from a solid on-site IT team.
-
Reporting: Prepare the monthly reporting pack, including a clear narrative for non-finance stakeholders, translating complex financial data into actionable insights for the leadership team.
Who Are You?
You are a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in accounting and finance. Your experience, coupled with your leadership skills, positions you well to manage both operational and strategic financial activities. You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to clearly present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Key qualifications and attributes include:
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong technical accounting skills, particularly in financial reporting and management accounting
- Proven experience in managing a small team and working cross-functionally within a business
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
