Financial Controller

Hartley People are currently looking for a strong Financial Controller/Head of Finance for a valued customer of ours based in West Dublin. Taking the financial reigns, this is an excellent opportunity for someone with the industry experience and ambition to add real value to the continued success of their 40M+ Turnover business with solid growth plans.

Key duties involved are:

  • Financial Operations: Supervise the accounting team in day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and collections. Review financial transactions for accuracy and completeness, ensuring proper recording and classification.
  • Streamline financial processes and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including monthly financial statements, budget variance analysis, and cash flow projections. Analyse financial data and provide insights to key stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.
  • Cash Flow Management: Daily monitoring of cash flow to manage the cyclical nature of construction projects, including adherence to Revenue guidelines for VAT returns and payments, ensuring liquidity for operational needs and project funding.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance with Irish Law: Implement and maintain internal controls to comply with the Companies Act 2014 and other relevant Irish legislation, ensuring the integrity of financial transactions and reporting.
  • Preparing the annual audit file
  • Cost Control and Operational Efficiency: Analyse project costs and operational expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities, including leveraging local Irish suppliers or technologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Liaison with the commercial, QS, and estimation department
  • Budget Management and Monitoring: Regularly collaborate with project managers to review budgets versus actual expenditures, focusing on projects’ unique aspects in Ireland, such as weather-related delays or local regulatory requirements affecting costs.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring they are updated on the latest Irish accounting standards, tax laws, and financial management practices relevant to the construction industry.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial results and forecasts to stakeholders, with a specific focus on the implications of Irish tax regulations, economic conditions, and the construction industry’s state within Ireland.


  • A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a comparable role, is essential.
  • Qualified Accountant – ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA
  • Business or MBA degree desirable
  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to procedures
  • Produce reports in a timely fashion
  • Ability to effectively manage the finance and administration team
  • Willingness to be in involved in the general management and business strategy of the company.
